As education evolves in this digital age AI can be optimised as a valuable studying aid. Rather than replacing the learning process, AI should be used as more of a smart and helpful friend - almost like a study buddy or a personal assistant that helps enhance your revision and plan your time effectively. These are the methods I have used :
Revising for a test : When I have a test coming up I put the topics/subtopics that I need to revise, then specify when my test date is, how much time I could do on certain dates, areas of weakness that I want to review more than once, how to split up the time eg) when I revise for biology I want a bit of time to review content, active recall and exam question.
Teach a topic like I am five : I really like using this method when there is a concentration I find difficult to understand or even on the days that I feel tired and nothings sticking. What I like to do is take a photo from a textbook also take a screenshot of the specification and ask the AI to explain the topic to me like I am five. This allow me to understand they key and basic concepts of the topics. Then I ask to make the explanation more advanced and then increase it to a level standard. This method really helps me build a deep understanding of the topics as concepts are broken down into its simplest form, then slowly introducing more detail and technical terms. It also allows me to reveal gaps in understanding and helps to boost confidence as starting simple makes things less overwhelming.
Methods of memorisation : This technique is really good when trying to make acronyms for example trying to memorise the taxonomies you would ask to build an acronym and then tailor it to you for example ask to base the acronym on a movie you really like or make it funny. This way less time is spent on making the acronym but its still customised. Writing a poem or a little song is also quite fun as I find it helps stick in my head which is good for things with a little more detailed. Eg) I needs to learn what each of the heart condition terms ment, the first attempts gave me an answer that was too long and irrelevant so I asked for it to be shortened: Brady is slow, a calm, steady flow. Ectopic skips — not where it’s supposed to go. Fib is chaotic, no rhythm to show. Tachy is fast, like it’s ready to blow. It’s catchy and customised for me to remember.
Make it fun to revise : Again I use this method when I’m not in the mood to revise or I’m tired. I insert a picture from a textbook/pdf as well as the specification and simply say can you make a fun way to revise this topic that is memorable and contains the key terms and follows the specification.
Gamification : Turn studying into a game like concept and set goals for yourself eg) get 5 question correct in a row or study for x amount of time. Break your topics into levels and then give yourself rewards for completing a “level”. Ask AI to turn your revision into a story or game quest eg. “You’re a scientist trying to stop a virus - learn about the immune system to save the world.” which helps a lot with creative learners. And use visual badges or progress bars to show track of your progress and even show areas o weakness to help you improve, this can also help motivating you.
